Presentation Time :D

We presented ‘’ Shooting an Elephant’’ on 12 April. In my opinion we can do a better presentation but we will try to show good question and clear explanation to next presentation :D in addition thanks a lot Sonja because she always support us in during present short story and really useful feedback instead of my bad ideas about presentation.

• A good point about there being no Burmese phrases, although there were some from Indian languages: coolie, mahout

Shooting an Elephant

George Orwell shows his own experience in this short story. He was police officer who is forced to kill an elephant in Burma. However, this story is not about the killing an elephant. Writer criticizes that the imperialism in Burma (by England). George Orwell wanted to show that the results of imperialism and he use the elephant to show this situation. Elephant refers to the British imperialism in this story. In addition, the death of elephant is slow, which means painful and slow process. The victim of the imperialism is not only exploited nations but also the citizens of the Western Empires. We made a presentation about shooting an elephant short story with Bedi, Selim, Elif and me.

Honour Killing

Honour killing is a kind of violence against women. Honour crimes is committed by male family members such as father or brother ( age is not important for killing). If female break the family rules, she will a victim of murder and anybody do not prevent this crime. Therefore, honour killing is an important issue in Turkey. Every year a vast number of women are killed by thier own father, brother or any other male family member. Many women who live in Turkey especially in rural areas, they are still exposed to violence because of the moral rules because men believe that honour killing preserve their honour. Moral rules may be basic elements of the honour killings but also there are many reasons about honour killing such as culture, tradition, gender, society or religion have an inevitable affects on honour crimes. Women must obey the moral rules, family rules or religious rules for living. I made some reasearch so ı will add more and interesting examples about honour crimes in my research paper. why turkish men commit a violence or what is the reason of the honour killings. if we are really think about these questions and try to find a solutions. May be population welfare increase and commit a crime rate begin to decrease. Also, men may accept the equality of men and women in society.
